Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of former MP Ann Widdecombe was discovered at her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday, July 9. The 78-year-old was found dead with serious injuries inside the property, prompting a major crime inquiry.

Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson of the Major Crime Investigation Team said: "This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe at this difficult time. Our murder enquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace. We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible, who we believe to be a white male."
A police cordon remains in place, and road closures are in effect as forensic examinations continue. Detectives are conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage. The public can expect a heightened police presence in the area.
How to Assist the Investigation
Police have established a Major Incident Public Portal for submitting information, images, and video footage. Those with details can contact police on 101 or via the force's website, quoting reference 50260179119 and Operation Hunlen. Anonymous information can be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
DCI Rosson urged the public: "I would appeal to anyone who may have information about this incident, however insignificant it may seem, to come forward. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of Haytor Vale, Haytor, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage. I would ask people not to speculate about what might have happened, particularly on social media."
