A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder over a fatal house fire in Grangetown has been released with no further action. The fire killed a seven-year-old girl and her aunt.
Fatal Blaze on Birchington Avenue
Officers were called to reports of a blaze at Birchington Avenue in Grangetown at 5.23am on August 26. Natalie McDonald, 34, and her niece Valentina Foster both died, while four others were injured.
Cleveland Police said a 23-year-old man continues to be questioned in connection with the murder investigation.
Injuries and Hospital Treatment
Officers said on Friday that a 48-year-old woman remains in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in a “critical but stable” condition, and a 27-year-old man is still at James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment.
Two teenage girls have both been discharged after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Building Safety Work
The property remains unstable, and there will be work carried out on the building over the coming days to make the site safe, the force said.
