Jamie Duncan, 21, has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend in the face before fleeing to Spain.
Duncan is alleged to have killed Israa Djeddou in the bedroom of her family home in Barnet, north London, in the early hours of June 8. He appeared in court by video-link from Wormwood Scrubs on Tuesday, charged with murder and three firearms offences.
Prosecution details
Prosecutor Kelly Brocklehurst said police were called shortly after midnight on June 8, and despite the efforts of medics, Ms Djeddou died at the scene at 12.45am. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the face.
Mr Brocklehurst said the defendant and victim had known each other for around three months and had been in a relationship for about one month. Shortly before the shooting, members of the victim’s family allegedly heard shouting and a scream around midnight before the defendant left the premises.
Flight and arrest
He said: “The defendant not only left the premises in haste but left the country.” The firearm allegedly used in the shooting was not recovered, the court was told.
Duncan was located in Spain and extradited back to the UK and arrested on August 26.
Next steps
Judge Nigel Lickley KC set a plea hearing for November 16 and a provisional three-week trial from June 7 next year. The defendant, of no fixed address, was remanded into custody.
