Man in court after car crashes into Northumberland club

A man has appeared in court following a collision in which a car smashed into a club in Northumberland. Billy Sporne, 28, of Southern Close, Ashington, faced Teesside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Collision on North Seaton Road

Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance Service, were called to North Seaton Road, in Ashington, in the early hours of October 13. It was alleged that a black Volkswagen Golf had been involved in a police chase before leaving the road and colliding with a road sign and The Mortimer club.

A man and woman in their 20s were taken to hospital with serious injuries, and a section of the road remained closed for several hours. Later that day, Northumbria Police confirmed that a man had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Court Appearance and Next Hearing

Sporne was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on November 20.
