A suspected flasher told a court he "forgot he didn't have any clothes on" when he was allegedly seen exposing himself by two people in a Northumberland town. Alex King is accused of shouting to attract attention while standing naked on the balcony of a property in the centre of Alnwick.
Alleged incident at Corn Exchange
The 28-year-old is then suspected of grabbing his genitals in front of two witnesses, who later reported him to police. King, now of Bewick Lane, in Ovingham, was arrested and appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court this week to plead not guilty to one count of exposure.
Jade Houston, prosecuting, said the offence allegedly happened in Alnwick's Corn Exchange on July 2 last year. Miss Houston told magistrates: "This is a case the Crown would say is suitable for summary trial." She added: "The witnesses heard shouting, looked up and saw this defendant on a balcony. He was [allegedly] entirely naked. He also was allegedly grabbing his genitals."
Defence claim and trial date
Stewart Hay, defending, said: "The issue for trial is that the defendant didn't intend to cause distress and simply forgot he didn't have any clothes on at the time." Magistrates accepted jurisdiction and the case was listed for trial.
King was released on unconditional bail to next appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on November 17.
