Essex Police launched an investigation after a man died falling from a 15-storey tower block following a reported disturbance. The incident occurred at Grampian Tower in Balmoral Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, early on Friday, July 3.
Emergency response and initial reports
Police were first called to the scene at around 6am after receiving reports of a disturbance. A second call raised "significant concern" for a man outside the building. Upon arrival, officers discovered the man had died after falling from the tower block. The exact floor from which he fell has not been confirmed.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "His death is being treated as unexpected and is under investigation." No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Residents recount the commotion
Residents reported hearing unusual noises around 5:45am. Steve Watkins, 48, who lives on the 14th floor, said he heard "a big scream and a crash of glass." Daryll Hall, 36, added: "What I heard was a big bang followed by loads of screaming and shouting. Then, probably 10 minutes later, sirens."
Investigation underway
Police have launched a full investigation, including door-to-door inquiries and reviews of CCTV footage. They are urging anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam, or other footage to contact them. The man's next of kin have been informed, though formal identification is pending.
