Man Critical After Suspected Assault in Murton

A man is in critical condition following a suspected assault in Murton, County Durham. Durham Constabulary launched an investigation after officers were called at 12.50pm on Saturday, June 27, to a back lane behind Woods Terrace, where the man was found injured.

Victim Hospitalised and Police Appeal for Witnesses

The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Police are working to establish the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or has information to come forward.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched following a suspected assault in Murton. Officers were called at 12.50pm on Saturday (June 27) following reports that a man had been found with injuries in the back lane behind Woods Terrace. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and would like to speak to anyone who could assist their enquiries."

Air Ambulance and Ambulance Service Respond

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was also called to the scene at 1.17pm, with a paramedic and doctor arriving by aircraft at 1.28pm. They worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to treat the man before he was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital by road, accompanied by the GNAAS team.

A GNAAS spokesperson said: "On Saturday our critical care team was activated at 1.17pm to reports of an assault in Murton. We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 1.28pm. Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient. The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."

An NEAS spokesperson added: "We received a call at 1pm on Saturday (29 June 2026) to reports of a person injured as a result of an incident in Murton, Seaham. We sent a clinical team leader, emergency ambulance, the air ambulance and took the patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital by road for further treatment."
