A 35-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed near Clapham Park in Balham, south London, on Friday night. The attack occurred at approximately 7:35pm on a residential street, prompting a swift response from Metropolitan Police officers and paramedics who provided first aid at the scene before rushing the victim to hospital.
Witnesses chased attacker
According to police, witnesses present at the scene bravely chased the attacker away from the victim before authorities arrived. The suspect fled the area and no arrests have yet been made. Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert described the incident as a “shocking and brutal attack, carried out in broad daylight on a residential street.”
Gilbert stated: “Our officers are working quickly to identify and arrest the attacker and it is imperative that anyone with information should come forward immediately. We recognise this incident will be deeply disturbing to the local community and want to reassure residents that they can expect to see an increased number of officers in the area over the coming days. We would also like to pay tribute to the members of the public who bravely chased the suspect away from the scene while he was still armed.”

The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information or footage related to the stabbing to contact them on 101, quoting CAD 6708/18Jul. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify and apprehend the suspect.
