Man Charged with Murder at Peak District Stone Circle

Szymon Babynko, a 23-year-old Polish national from London, has been charged with murder following the death of Isaac Clare-Watts at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in the Peak District. The body of Mr Clare-Watts, 26, from Nottinghamshire, was discovered at the Bronze Age site in Stanton Lees on Monday after a summer solstice gathering.

Victim Identified as Popular Joiner

Isaac Clare-Watts, a qualified joiner, had worked for Nottingham-based building firm Frank Goulding Ltd since 2016. The company described him as a "very popular member" of their team. He had recently taken time off to travel, including a trip to Thailand to develop his Muay Thai skills, a passion of his. A company tribute stated: "Isaac was a very popular member of our team and decided last year he wanted to take some time and go and see the world... We are all very saddened to hear the tragic news and our prayers and sympathy go to his family."

Charges and Arrests

Babynko, of Commonwealth Way, London, has also been charged with attempted murder in connection with a separate incident on Hady Lane, Chesterfield, on June 25. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Derby Magistrates' Court today. A 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail as investigations continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Inspector Tony Owen described the killing as "the most brutal way" and urged anyone who attended the summer solstice event to come forward. He said: "I am urgently appealing for anyone who attended the summer solstice event over the weekend to please speak to officers as soon as they can. A young man’s life has been taken in the most brutal way so it is vital that myself and the team build up a clear picture of the exact circumstances surrounding his death."
