A man has been charged following the death of John McMonigle in Cumbernauld. The 45-year-old was found dead with serious injuries at a property in Glenhove Road at around 9.20am on Wednesday, 17 July 2026.
Investigation Details
Detectives conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area this week to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. Police Scotland confirmed on Friday evening that a man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer from the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr McMonigle’s family at what is an extremely difficult time for them. They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected.”

Young added: “A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries are ongoing. I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as our investigation continues.”
Police have not released further details about the identity of the charged man or the nature of the injuries sustained by Mr McMonigle. The investigation remains active.
