Ciaran McConnell, 37, from New Quay, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place following an alleged assault that left a 20-year-old man with serious injuries.
The incident occurred on Margaret Street leading to Uplands Square in New Quay, Ceredigion, at approximately 12:51 am on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Police said the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. In an update on Sunday, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the victim's condition is now stable.
Charges and Court Appearance
McConnell remains in police custody and is due to appear at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Monday, July 6, 2026. He faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
A 59-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Dyfed-Powys Police are continuing to investigate the serious assault and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. A police spokesperson said: "Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have doorbell, CCTV, or other security camera footage from the area between the hours of 12:50 am and 5:20 am on Saturday, July 4, to please get in touch."
