Man Accused of Murdering Baby Son Appears in Court

Niall Worsfold, 29, of Leeds, appeared tearfully in Leeds Crown Court on Monday charged with the murder of his one-month-old baby son. The infant died on July 10, 2020, six days after being admitted to hospital from an address in Lincombe Drive, Gledhow.

Charges and Court Proceedings

West Yorkshire Police confirmed Worsfold has also been charged with one count of child cruelty. During the preliminary hearing, he appeared via video link from prison and was visibly upset throughout. He was not required to enter pleas to the charges.

Judge Howard Crowson scheduled a trial to begin on February 22 next year, expected to last up to four weeks. The defendant was remanded in custody until his next appearance, a plea and trial preparation hearing at Leeds Crown Court on September 7.

Evidence and Investigation

The judge informed Worsfold: “The prosecution will make sure all evidence is available to your lawyers by August 24. I think you already know what’s alleged against you in pretty clear terms.” Police stated that a 25-year-old woman arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action.
