An inquest into the death of John Anthony Mongan, a 49-year-old man from Walsall, has been opened following a fatal incident in Welshpool town centre. The incident occurred on Church Street at 1:16 am on Sunday, June 28.
Charges and Investigation
Dyfed-Powys Police launched an investigation after Mr. Mongan was found deceased. Martin Slezak, 22, of Stanley Street in Welshpool, has been charged with murder in connection with the incident. The police have confirmed that Slezak is currently in custody and is due to appear before magistrates.
Coroner's Proceedings
Assistant Coroner Andrew Morse opened the inquest at Pontyridd Coroner's Court on July 10. He stated that Mr. Mongan was born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, and resided at Fullbank Road, Walsall. The inquest has been adjourned and suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.
According to the coroner, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined, and further forensic examinations are underway. The court heard that Mr. Mongan's family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
