Granddad sparked christening rammy
A grandfather who attacked his ex-wife's new partner at a family christening has dodged jail. Peter McGuinness, 60, was celebrating the special occasion when he clashed with Robert Allison. The atmosphere at the Bully Inn pub in Quarter, Lanarkshire, soured after McGuinness's daughter Romany, 34, became involved in a row with Mr Allison over who was paying for a drink at the bar. McGuinness then repeatedly punched Mr Allison on the head and body, causing an injury to his left cheek in May last year. Horrified staff ordered the party to leave, but trouble involving McGuinness, his brother Kevin, Romany, Mr Allison, his son Euan and others continued outside.
Woman jailed after stamping on her mum's head
A daughter and her husband brutally attacked her mother in her own home and have each been jailed for four and a half years. Paula and Malcolm McGill left Kirsty Barrie, 56, with life-threatening injuries after bursting into her flat in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire on May 6 2024. The High Court in Glasgow heard the mum and her 41-year-old daughter were estranged at the time and had not spoken to each other for around seven years. However, the McGills and the victim lived near each other. In the early hours, police had been alerted to a noise complaint in a neighbouring flat of the thug couple.
Cops injured at protest outside asylum seeker hotel
Protestors have gathered outside a hotel in Greenock housing asylum seekers as cops swarm the area following a stabbing in Belfast. Protesters have been seen standing close to The Holiday Inn Express, which has been used to accommodate migrants, close to the town's waterfront. A heavily police presence has descended upon the scene, just off the Main Street in Inverclyde town, this evening as officers are pictured standing guard outside the hotel among several cop vans. It is understood the UK Government began accommodating migrants in the Holiday Inn Express in 2022 while their claims were being processed. It's not known if it is still being used to accommodate asylum seekers. Images from the scene show dozens of hooded protestors standing in front of a barricade of police officers. Police Scotland confirmed that two men had been arrested during the disturbance which saw three officers sustain minor injuries. Two police vehicles were also damaged as a result of objects being thrown at police.
Man found guilty of attacking schoolgirl
A man told a court he attacked a 12-year-old girl as he could see a knife under her T-shirt and thought she was going to hurt his sister. Ilia Belov, 22, was convicted of assaulting the girl during an incident in the Lochee area of Dundee in August last year. Giving evidence to Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday, Belov said he had been with his father on his way to buy cigarettes when he passed a group of young girls walking in the other direction. Speaking with the assistance of a Bulgarian interpreter, the father-of-two said as they approached, one of the girls uttered “disrespectful” remarks to him. “They are coming and start making some cheeky remarks,” he said. “They told me ‘son of a bastard’ and also ‘f****** migrant’.”
Kayden Moy's youngest killer comes from crime family
Kayden Moy’s youngest teen killer comes from a family of criminals involved in shootings and drugs, the Record can reveal. The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of murdering Kayden, 16, at Irvine beach in May 2025 after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow last week. Jay Stewart, 18 was also convicted of the killing and Cole Turley, 18, pleaded guilty to the murder before the trial started. It was heard in court how the 15-year-old handed the lock back knife to Turley before he used it to fatally stab Kayden. The Record can now reveal that members of the child's family have murky criminal pasts. One male relative was the victim of a targeted shooting, while a female linked to the boy was convicted of supplying drugs. Kayden’s murderers were part of the notorious East Kilbride ‘Murray Boys’ gang - and a source told the Record the 15-year-old was recruited to the group after his family allowed him to befriend Jay Stewart. He said: "The boy’s family basically let him to strike up a close friendship with Jay and hang around with his gang."
