This is the terrifying moment a little girl dangles from a window ledge above a London shop before her dramatic rescue.
The child was caught in harrowing footage clinging to a ledge above a pawnbrokers shop as onlookers helplessly look on.
The girl appears to be desperately trying to pull herself up and to safety as she hangs precariously from the building on Ilford High Road in East London. A woman appears from a window and below and appears to be calling out and reaching out to the girl above her.
Then a topless man and a police officer appear on a ledge below as the girl looks in increasing difficulty and the crowd that has gathered below grows increasingly anxious.
Gasps are heard from the crowd below as the girl drops but she is caught by the man and the officer.
There is audible relief as she is caught and some applause breaks out as people are heard shouting “well done” and “good job”.
The extraordinary footage was filmed on Tuesday.
The Met Police said officers were called to the scene shortly after 3.20pm following reports of concerns for a child’s safety.
The girl is believed to have been hanging from the ledge for at least nine minutes before her rescue, as that was how long officers were in attendance.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Ilford High Road at 15:23hrs on Tuesday, June 9, following concerns for the safety of a child climbing onto a window ledge.
“The girl was bought to safety by 15:32hrs by an attending officer and member of the public.
“They did not receive any injuries.”
