Firefighters rescued people from a house fire on Cragside Avenue in North Shields early Wednesday morning, with one patient taken to hospital for further treatment. The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, North East Ambulance Service, Great North Air Ambulance Service, and Northumbria Police responded to the blaze, which was reported before 3:30am.
Emergency Response and Rescue
Five fire appliances from Tynemouth, Byker, South Shields, and Gosforth Community Fire Stations were dispatched, along with three ambulances and three Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) resources. Firefighters entered the property and rescued persons inside before extinguishing the flames. A police cordon remains in place, and a section of the road has been closed as investigations continue.
Damage and Investigation
Photos from the scene show extensive damage to a window and a burnt-through roof. A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm that earlier today, Wednesday, 1st July, five appliances attended an incident in North Tyneside. The emergency call came in to our Control Room team at 03:27… The incident involved a fire in a house. Firefighters rescued persons from the property and extinguished the blaze.”
The North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called to a fire at a private address in North Shields at 3:32am on Wednesday 01 July. We dispatched three ambulance crews, one rapid response paramedic, one clinical team leader, one duty officer, three HART resources and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment by road.”
Police Statement
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3.30am today (Wednesday), we were alerted by the fire service to a fire at an address in the Cragside Avenue area of North Shields. Emergency services are currently in attendance. A section of the road has also been closed.” The cause of the fire is under investigation.
