Dad Dies 2 Years After Euros Final Assault, Murder Probe

Ramon Logan, a 42-year-old father of four, died on 30 June 2026 after a brutal assault in the early hours of 15 July 2024, following a night out to watch the Euros final. Police have now launched a murder investigation.

Attack and Aftermath

Logan, known as Ray, had watched England vs Spain at a local rugby club and then went for drinks in Oldham. At around 4am on Yorkshire Street, Sebastian Jones, 37, punched Logan, knocking him to the ground, and continued the assault as he lay defenceless. Bystanders intervened and called police. Logan suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalised; he never fully recovered.

Jones fled but was arrested a week later in Bury. In April 2025, he was convicted of Section 18 assault and sentenced to seven years in prison. This was not his first offence: in 2023 he was jailed for extorting a mother over her ex-partner's drug debts.

Family's Grief and Tributes

Logan's wife Charlotte announced his death on social media: "It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beautiful husband, Ray Logan, on June 30. Ray was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, and will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him. Ray never stopped fighting to get better for the last two years, all we can wish for now is that he gets the justice he deserves."

Friend Dale Lowe wrote: "I can't believe I'm writing this. I'm heartbroken. For the last two years, you fought so hard for a different outcome. No matter how many setbacks you faced... you never stopped fighting right until the very end."

Murder Investigation Underway

Greater Manchester Police have opened a murder inquiry. A Home Office post-mortem has been conducted, and further investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death. Detective Inspector Andy Day said: "We know how difficult and painful the last two years have been for Ramon's family, and we are continuing to support them following his death last week. We have now launched a murder investigation, and are keeping his family updated as we progress our enquiries."

No arrests have been made yet. Detectives are reviewing all available material and will make further assessments.
