A 10-year-old child has tragically lost their life after falling from a fourth-floor apartment in the French seaside town of Lorient, Brittany. Emergency services, including paramedics and fire crews, rushed to the scene on Sunday evening following reports of a child falling from a flat at 4 Rue Gabriel-Fauré, in the Bois du Château neighbourhood.
Emergency Response
First responders attempted to resuscitate the child, but their efforts were in vain. The youngster was pronounced dead at the scene. The gender of the child has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
Investigation Launched
French police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out in the coming days. Public prosecutor Laëtitia Mirande stated: "An investigation into the causes of death has been opened. The initial investigations do not, at this time, suggest the involvement of a third party."
Community Support
The prosecutor added that the child's family will be referred to France Victimes, a support organisation, to receive appropriate assistance. According to local newspaper Ouest-France, the child was from Comoros, a volcanic archipelago off the east coast of Africa. The Comorian community in Lorient has been deeply affected by the incident.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the exact cause of the fall, but there is currently no indication of any suspicious circumstances.
