Care home rapist jailed for eight years for assaults

A former care worker has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting two vulnerable women in East Lothian. Robert Wilson, 53, attacked Yvonne Carnie, 68, at a residential home on multiple occasions between August 2022 and February 2023. Ms Carnie died in 2025 before her attacker was brought to justice.

Convictions and sentencing

Wilson was also convicted of raping another woman in Tranent, East Lothian, in 2013. Both convictions were secured at the High Court in Edinburgh. The court heard that Wilson exploited his position of trust and power to target vulnerable women.

Family statement

Ms Carnie's family stated that Wilson showed a "calculated, predatory disregard" and stole the dignity from her final years. They expressed pride in her courage, which helped stop the abuse.

Prosecutors and police highlighted Wilson's manipulative and sexually abusive pattern, noting he targeted vulnerable women by exploiting trust and his position of power. Police Scotland welcomed the sentence, saying it reflects the severity of his crimes.
