A teenage boy has been charged with attempted murder after a man in his 60s was stabbed while walking through a golf course in Staffordshire.
Emergency services were called to the Castlefields area of Stafford on Thursday 14 May after the victim was found with multiple stab wounds. He had been walking along a public footpath through Stafford Castle golf course at around 7pm when he was approached from behind and seriously injured. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Staffordshire Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy, described as white and of Bulgarian nationality, was arrested on Tuesday 19 May. He has been charged with attempted murder and theft from a shop. Due to his age, he cannot be named for legal reasons.
The teenager is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Saturday 23 May. A 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action. Police have urged the public to avoid speculation while legal proceedings are ongoing.
