Two boys armed with flick knives stabbed a 17-year-old to death after a confrontation with his friend in the early hours, a court has heard. The youths, aged 14 and 15, appeared at the Old Bailey at separate hearings charged with killing Jamal Coombes in Battersea, south London.
Details of the Incident
Police were called at around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, to reports of a stabbing on Glycena Road. Medics attended the scene, where Jamal was found with multiple stab wounds and died at the scene. The defendants, from Wandsworth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were charged with murder and possession of a blade.
Court Proceedings
At an Old Bailey hearing for the older defendant on Thursday, the court heard allegations that the boys had been out and about on the streets of south London at 4 a.m. armed with flick knives when a confrontation occurred with another boy, who ran away. The boy later returned with Jamal, who was stabbed three times, with one wound proving fatal, the court heard.
Judge Mark Dennis KC commented on the alleged circumstances, stating it appeared to be another example of an urban cultural lifestyle involving youths carrying knives. The judge set a plea hearing for September 10 and a provisional trial for both defendants from March 15, 2027. The 15-year-old defendant, who appeared in the dock, was remanded into youth custody.
