Boy, 4, Hit by Motorcycle in South Shields; Police Probe

A four-year-old boy was struck by a motorcycle on South Promenade in South Shields on Saturday afternoon, prompting a police investigation into the hit-and-run incident. The collision occurred near Ocean Beach Pleasure Park just before 3:20pm, according to Northumbria Police.

Injuries and Emergency Response

A woman in her 30s was also hit by the same motorcycle. The boy was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, while the woman sustained minor injuries. The North East Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic, a rapid response paramedic, and a clinical team leader to the scene. Two patients were taken to hospital for further treatment.

A police cordon was initially set up on South Promenade, Sea Road, but the road has since reopened. Emergency services remain at the scene, with several vehicles and officers present.

Police Appeal and Investigation

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have launched a full investigation. The motorcycle involved, along with two others, fled the scene. Police are appealing for the rider to come forward and for any witnesses to provide information.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who can assist officers, including those with CCTV or dashcam footage, should send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media or use live chat and ‘report’ forms on the Force’s website. Extensive enquiries are ongoing, including a review of CCTV footage. The Great North Air Ambulance Service has also been contacted for comment.
