Boy, 16, arrested on suspicion of murder after woman found dead

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in south Manchester. The victim, a woman in her 60s, was found dead in a house on Ivylea Road, Burnage, on Wednesday morning (July 8).

Officers from Greater Manchester Police, along with paramedics, were called to the scene following reports of an assault at around 8am that day. The woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by responders.

Murder investigation launched

A murder investigation was launched by detectives and remains ongoing. On Wednesday evening, a police car was pictured along the residential street. A witness said there was a major police presence at a house throughout the day amid investigations.

A teenager, a 16-year-old boy, remains in custody being questioned in relation to the incident. The MEN reports that the victim was related to the suspect.

Police statement

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said in a statement: "Officers responded to reports of an assault at an address on Ivylea Road, Burnage at around 8am today (08/07/26). One woman aged in her 60s sadly died at the scene and a boy, aged 16, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning."
