13 Men Charged in Wife Abuse Case After Restrictions Lifted

Thirteen men charged in the UK alongside a man accused of drugging and raping his wife over a 20-year period can now be identified after reporting restrictions were lifted. The co-defendants include a senior paramedic, a football coach, a taxi driver, and a former football club chief executive, among others.

Main Defendant Pleads Guilty to Multiple Charges

The main defendant, a man in his 60s from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, cannot be named to protect his wife’s anonymity. He has pleaded guilty to 15 charges: five rapes, three sexual assaults, six assaults by penetration, and one count of sharing intimate images without consent. He denies 33 other charges and is due to stand trial in September at Manchester’s Minshull Street crown court.

Co-Defendants Face Serious Charges

The co-defendants, aged 28 to 73, face charges including conspiracy to rape and conspiracy to assault by penetration. Some are alleged to have directly participated in the abuse, while others are accused of encouraging sexual offences online. During preliminary hearings, some defendants dressed smartly while others appeared in tracksuits.
