Police Launch Appeal After Woman's 'Suspicious' Death

Detectives in New South Wales are urgently appealing for information after the death of a 31-year-old woman in Port Macquarie was declared suspicious. Megan Tangye was discovered with multiple unexplained injuries inside her waterfront unit on Gore Street on the afternoon of December 27.

Emergency services were called to the single-storey home at approximately 11.40am. Ms Tangye was rushed to Port Macquarie Hospital but sadly died from her injuries. Police confirmed that detectives were unable to properly interview her about the circumstances leading to her death.

A Life Remembered and an Ongoing Investigation

Speaking to the ABC, Megan Tangye's sister-in-law, Erin Russell, paid tribute to her character. 'Megan was always so kind and caring,' she said. 'She would always be the first person to check in on others.'

Ms Russell added that the family was struggling to cope with the loss but remained determined. 'This has hit very close to home; we're not coping so well... But we're not going to let this defeat us.'

The investigation, now under Strike Force Hazen, progressed following a post-mortem examination and extensive police enquiries. Detective Inspector Mark Rogers stated that the nature of the injuries led to the case being treated as suspicious. 'The [types of] injuries form part of our suspicions around her death,' he told reporters.

Detectives 'Keep Open Mind' in Search for Answers

While officers have spoken to a number of people, no charges have been laid. Detective Inspector Rogers emphasised the ongoing nature of the inquiry. 'There's a number of inquiries we'll keep an open mind about … if anyone's heard anything or has any information regarding Megan, we would urge them to come forward.'

Police are urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. The appeal highlights the mysterious circumstances surrounding the tragedy on the NSW mid-north coast as authorities work to piece together the final moments of Megan Tangye's life.
