A Scottish man has been reported missing in Tokyo after leaving a poker match in a red-light district. Alistair Roberts, from Glasgow, has not been in touch with his fiancée or friends since leaving the game in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 37-year-old's disappearance has been described as totally 'out of character', with his loved ones fearing the worst. The last sighting of Alistair came from a live camera stream of Kabukicho, a notorious red-light district known as the 'sleepless town'. He was last seen around 4:30am on 11 July leaving a poker establishment, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Recent Return to Tokyo
Alistair had recently returned to Tokyo to be with his fiancée, who last heard from him at 3am, according to his friend Charles Hatch. The 37-year-old was apparently in a good frame of mind. His phone has since been dead, with no one able to reach him. A missing person's report has been filed with the Tokyo police, who maintain that he is not in their custody.
Efforts to Locate Alistair
The friend also claims that attempts to contact the UK embassy have been made. They are also desperately trying to inform Alistair's family back home about his disappearance. A public appeal for information on Alistair's whereabouts has been issued. Expats, travellers and locals have been urged to come forward with any information they may have on Alistair.
Charles Hatch said: "The police have stated they are searching their systems but as he appeared to be fine in his last sighting, they suspect he may have just decided to disappear on his own volition. This is insanely out of character as he just returned to Japan to be with his fiancée, and he was in a sound mental state. We are aware it may be possible that he is in police custody, but so far they have maintained their position that he isn't. He is also a regular to the Kabukicho area, and it is very unlikely he has followed any touts."
