A 42-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a teenager who suffered life-changing injuries as a four-month-old baby more than 17 years ago.
Arrest at Heathrow and Historic Incident
Lejunae Wood, aged 42 and from Wuppertal in Germany, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Thursday on suspicion of murder. He was taken into police custody and has now been formally charged.
The charge relates to a devastating incident that occurred in December 2007 in Hayes. The victim, Leajunne Wood, was just four months old when he sustained a severe head injury. Medical professionals at the time described his injuries as life-changing.
A Tragic Death and Renewed Investigation
Leajunne, who lived with the profound consequences of his injuries, tragically passed away on Monday, 6 December 2021, at the age of 14.
Pathologist reports, which were completed in 2023, concluded that his death was a direct result of complications stemming from the severe head injury he suffered as an infant. This finding prompted the Metropolitan Police to launch a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Court Appearance and Family Support
Lejunae Wood is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 6 December.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that Leajunne’s next of kin have been informed of this significant development. Specialist family liaison officers continue to provide them with support throughout the process.
