Family heartbroken after man, 21, killed in park stabbing

The family of a 21-year-old man who was stabbed to death in a park in Chelmsford have described their 'heartbreak' and paid tribute to his 'kind soul'. Radwan Shakur, from Wembley, London, was found with fatal injuries in Central Park on Friday (June 12). Emergency services attended the scene but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Charges Filed

Essex Police have charged two teenagers with murder. Romeo Mfinda, 18, of Widford Chase, and a 17-year-old boy from Chelmsford, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday (June 15). They are also charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis and possession of a knife in a public place.

Arrests and Investigation

Three other teenagers were initially arrested on suspicion of murder from an address in Auckland Close. An 18-year-old has been released on bail, while a 14-year-old boy has been released under investigation. Over the weekend, a fourth suspect, an 18-year-old man, was arrested from an address in Widford Chase.

Detective Inspector Lydia George, leading the investigation, said: 'This was a shocking incident in a busy public park at a time when many people would have been enjoying the area. Our thoughts remain with Radwan’s family, who we continue to support. We have made significant progress through CCTV, witnesses, and forensic work, but our investigation continues.'

Family Tribute

In a statement, Radwan’s family said: 'Radwan was a kind soul loved by his family and everyone that knew him. He had a smile that would brighten up a room. He had such hopes and dreams for his future. He was looking forward to going to university and the bright future ahead. Our hearts are truly broken. We will miss him.'

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward via a dedicated public portal.
