Van Bursts into Flames on M62 Near Rochdale

Firefighters rushed to a busy motorway junction near Rochdale after a van burst into flames. The incident occurred on Friday night, June 19, at approximately 9:46 PM on the roundabout off junction 20 of the M62, for the A627(M).

Emergency Response

Three fire engines from Chadderton, Heywood, and Rochdale fire stations were dispatched to the scene. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) reported that crews arrived quickly and found the front of a white van engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing from the vehicle.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel and specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Greater Manchester Police also attended to assist with traffic and safety measures. Emergency services worked at the scene for around 40 minutes to make the area safe.

Official Statement

A spokesperson for GMFRS stated: "Shortly after 9:46 PM yesterday evening (Friday, June 19), three fire engines from Chadderton, Heywood and Rochdale fire stations were called to reports of a van on fire at a roundabout near Junction 20 on the M62 in Rochdale. Crews arrived quickly on the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel and specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were in attendance for around 40 minutes and worked with colleagues from GMP to make the area safe."

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
