Two trains carrying approximately 600 passengers collided with a vehicle that had become stranded on railway lines in the Polish town of Błonie on January 25. The incident occurred at the level crossing on Poniatowskiego Street, prompting a mass evacuation of all travellers from both services.
Reports from Polish media outlet PolsatNews indicate that a Ford Focus suffered a breakdown at the crossing. The motorist attempted to push the vehicle off the tracks but was unsuccessful in time.
An Intercity service travelling from Szczecin Główny to Rzeszów Główny then struck the car, pushing it across to the opposite track. A second train subsequently collided with the vehicle, which had reportedly already caught fire by that point.
Deputy Inspector Ewelina Gromek-Oćwieja of the Warsaw West District Police said: "A Ford Focus broke down at a level crossing. The driver tried to push it off the tracks, but unfortunately, he didn't make it in time, and the car was hit by an Intercity train running from Szczecin Główny to Rzeszów Główny. The car ended up on the other track, where it was hit by a second Intercity train."
No casualties have been confirmed, and all 600 passengers were safely evacuated from both services.
