Tube delays as signal failure hits District and Northern lines
Tube delays as signal failure hits District and Northern lines

Commuters face severe delays on the London Underground this morning, while rail services at Liverpool Street are disrupted, according to the latest Transport for London (TfL) travel status update.

Signal failure causes severe delays

The District line is reporting severe delays between Earl's Court and Ealing Broadway, Richmond and Tower Hill, and Edgware Road and Earl's Court. The stretch between Upminster and Tower Hill, and Earl's Court and Wimbledon, is seeing minor delays. This is due to a signal system failure, TfL says.

The Northern line has severe delays between High Barnet and Camden Town, while the Kennington and Battersea section has minor delays. The cause is a faulty train at Nine Elms.

Liverpool Street disruption

Elsewhere, trains running between London Liverpool Street station and Hackney Downs and Chingford are disrupted today following an operational incident. As a result, platforms 1, 2 and 3 at Liverpool Street, the UK's busiest railway station, are closed, causing cancellations and last-minute changes.

Disruption is expected to last throughout the day, affecting Greater Anglia and London Overground Weaver line services. Trains between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street running in both directions, and services to and from Cambridge and Cambridge North, are also affected.

Disruption expected until end of day

National Rail said: 'An operational incident between London Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs / Chingford means trains running between these stations may be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.'

Metro has contacted Network Rail for a comment.
