Fatal Train Collision at Hoghton Level Crossing
A devastating train crash at a level crossing in Hoghton, Lancashire, has left one person dead and a child fighting for their life in hospital. The incident occurred just before 9:00 am on June 25, when a train struck a car at the crossing.
British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that two people were in the car. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the child was airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. No passengers on the train were injured.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
Fire crews, ambulance services, and police from BTP and South Ribble Police attended the scene. A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson stated: "Several clinical teams attended the scene, including our hazardous area response team and two air ambulances." Debris from the crash was scattered across the area, and a green tarpaulin covered the wreckage of the car near the tracks.
BTP urged witnesses to contact them via text at 61016, quoting reference 152 of 25 June. Inquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the collision.
