A man has been critically injured after a tractor fell from a bridge onto the M20 motorway in Kent. The incident occurred on Monday morning when the tractor became separated from its trailer on the A227 overbridge near Wrotham and dropped onto the central reservation between junctions 2 and 3.
Kent Police were called at 11.17am to reports of a single-vehicle collision, though earlier reports suggested two vehicles may have been involved. The driver was airlifted to King's College Hospital in London by air ambulance after multiple crews, including a critical care paramedic, attended the scene. His next of kin have been informed, and he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The M20 remains closed in both directions between junctions 1 and 3, alongside the A227, as emergency services deal with the incident. National Highways advised that the motorway is likely to remain closed into Monday evening for emergency repairs and resurfacing due to damage caused by the collision and a subsequent fuel spillage. Large queues have formed on either side of the bridge.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and remain at the scene. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
