A 19-year-old woman has recounted how a stranger's timely intervention saved her from a potentially serious fall at Oxford railway station, after she wore overly high heels during a train journey.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had been wearing 13cm stiletto heels following a breakup, in an attempt to boost her confidence. She admitted the shoes were 'crazy' and unsuitable for public transport, but she loved them nonetheless.
After alighting from the train, she began descending steep stairs while clutching the handrail. However, she let go to allow an elderly woman coming up to pass, and immediately lost her footing. She described the moment as feeling like a 'bowling ball claiming a strike,' anticipating a fall that would have knocked others over.
But before she could fall, a stranger grabbed her arm, steadied her, and helped her down to the bottom of the stairs. By the time she turned to thank them, they had disappeared into the crowd. She called the act a 'purely good deed' and noted that her 'mysterious hero' saved not only her but everyone else on the stairs that day.
The incident taught her a lesson: she never wore such high heels on public transport again. She said only her pride was damaged, thanks to the good samaritan's quick action.
