At least six people have been killed and dozens injured after a tourist shuttle bus crashed in central Italy. The bus collided head-on with a camper van and two cars on the Terni-Rieti road, near the border between the Umbria and Lazio regions, on Sunday evening, Umbria regional authorities said.
Critical condition
Regional president Stefania Proietti said six of the 34 people injured were in critical condition, while two others were being treated for serious injuries, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
The shuttle bus was transporting tourists to an ancient Roman waterfall in Umbria, Proietti said.
Catastrophic incident
She described the crash as a "catastrophic" mass-casualty incident, saying the regional emergency protocol was activated immediately after the first emergency call. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Terni, Perugia, Spoleto, Foligno and Rieti.
