A devastating bus crash on the Transbrasiliana Highway (BR-153) in Brazil has left eight people dead and 45 injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 16, on the stretch between Ocauçu and Marília, near São Paulo.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre blew off, causing the bus to overturn and land on its roof. The injured were taken to several hospitals in Marília, including Santa Casa, Hospital das Clínicas, Unimar, Hospital Materno-Infantil, and Emergency Care Units (UPA).
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) confirmed that the Civil Police are working to identify the victims and others involved. Investigators noted that the absence of a passenger list is making the identification process significantly more challenging.
Authorities have stated that the bus operator will be formally scrutinised following the tragedy. A forensic team has been dispatched, and the case has been filed with the Marília Regional Police Station, where investigators will work to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.
