Ryanair Passenger Warns After Being Told She Could Be Denied Seat

A Ryanair passenger has issued a warning after being told she would be 'unlikely to board a plane' due to overbooking. Aisling Finlay shared her experience on TikTok, where she claimed she was unaware such a situation could occur with the airline. The video has since gone viral, amassing over 27,000 views and sparking a flurry of comments from viewers.

Passenger's Ordeal

In the clip, Finlay explained: 'There's a high chance we're not getting on this flight. So, a reminder to everyone to check-in way in advance, as they're overbooking the planes.' She described checking in the night before and being unable to reserve a seat, with her boarding card indicating 'seat allocated at the gate'. Upon arrival, she was told the flight was overbooked by nine seats, and she and her companion were fifth and sixth in line to board, making it unlikely they would get on.

Public Reaction

Viewers were quick to share their own experiences. One commented: 'In all my years travelling, bumping has never happened to me, and I've never seen it happen. It must be a very new thing with Ryanair.' Another recounted a similar incident where they were rerouted and received £250 compensation. Others noted that overbooking is common across many airlines.

Ryanair's Policy

When contacted, Ryanair stated that as a policy, it does not overbook flights. The airline also confirmed that Finlay travelled on the flight from Dublin to Palma de Mallorca on June 3. However, its website acknowledges that in the unlikely event a seat is unavailable, it will seek volunteers to surrender seats in exchange for benefits before involuntarily denying boarding. Passengers denied boarding involuntarily are entitled to compensation as outlined on the website.
