Queensway Tunnel Night Closures Scheduled for Late June and Early July
The Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be closed to all traffic during four consecutive nights in late June and early July 2026 to allow essential maintenance work to proceed. The closures will run from 21:00 to 06:30 the following morning on the nights of 29 June, 30 June, 1 July, and 2 July. The Kingsway (Wallasey) Mersey Tunnel will remain open as usual, and motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.
Liverpool City Council Public Notices: Road Closures and Planning Applications
Liverpool City Council has issued notices for several road closures and planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Houghton Street, Houghton Lane, and Tyrer Street in Liverpool city centre will be closed between 9pm and 6am from 6 July to 11 September 2026 for building repair works. A signed diversion will be in place. Additionally, East Dam Wood Road will be closed in phases from 2 July to 11 August 2026 between 7:30am and 5pm for essential maintenance works by council contractors.
Planning applications advertised include repairs to the roof of The Old Library on Lister Drive, a single-storey rear extension at 4 Eaton Road, conversion of upper floors to serviced apartments at Pacific Chambers, alterations at 3 Brunswick Street, additional solar panels at Moonwood, external works at Imperial Court, and a mobile food concession trailer at Speke Hall. All applications can be viewed on the council's planning portal.
Wirral Council: Premises Licence Application and Goods Vehicle Operator Licence
Mrs N Dinesh has applied to Wirral Borough Council for a premises licence at 117 Brighton Street, Wallasey, for alcohol sales (off-premises) from 06:00 to 00:00 daily and late-night refreshment until midnight. Representations must be made by 8 July 2026. Separately, MLG Wagon Works Ltd has applied for a goods vehicle operator licence to use Magills Nurseries, Leasowe Road, Wallasey, as an operating centre for two goods vehicles. Representations to the Traffic Commissioner are due within 21 days.

In Knowsley, Denholm UK Logistics Ltd is applying to change its goods vehicle operator licence to add an operating centre at Ainsworth Lane, Knowsley, for 20 goods vehicles and 40 trailers.
