Potholes at a major junction on the border of Oldham and Rochdale have sparked anger among residents and local officials. Councillor Dylan Williams, who represents East Middleton at Rochdale town hall, has expressed frustration over the lack of action on crumbling road surfaces that lie just metres into Oldham's jurisdiction.
Location and Impact
The problem is at the junction where Greengate meets Grimshaw Lane, near a 'Welcome to Rochdale' sign, on the route into Middleton junction. Despite being Rochdale's highways boss, Councillor Williams says he cannot address the issue because the potholes are over the border in Oldham. He noted that the bus and cars rattle violently when driving over them.
Council Response and Delays
Coun Williams stated that Oldham Council marked the potholes for repair in March but never returned. He said: "They marked it up for repair in around March and then never been back since. The bus rattles like mad when they go over it and so do cars. It is in Oldham's boundary, they accept it's in their boundary. With them having no leader, there is no one to complain to other than the council officers themselves."
Oldham Council responded: "We are aware of concerns about potholes at this location and can confirm that our highways team has inspected the area. The site is being considered for future planned repair works, subject to priorities across the borough."
