A general strike across Portugal on 3 June is set to cause significant disruption, with around 500 flights expected to be affected and public transport services impacted. The industrial action, called by the CGTP umbrella union, involves multiple trade unions, including cabin crew represented by the SNPVAC union and transport workers from FECTRANS.
Flight and Transport Disruptions
The strike is expected to disrupt airlines such as TAP Air, easyJet, and Ryanair, as cabin crew members walk out. Passengers with tickets for 3 June are advised to check with their airlines for rebooking options. TAP Air has already announced that it will allow passengers to change their travel dates without additional charges.
Public transport will also be hit, with the Lisbon and Porto Metros likely to face delays or cancellations as FECTRANS joins the strike. Commuters are urged to seek alternative travel arrangements.
Reasons for the Strike
The strike is a protest against government-proposed labour reforms that would make it easier for employers to dismiss workers and remove caps on outsourcing. The CGTP union argues that these changes threaten workers' rights and job security.
Travelers planning to fly to or from Portugal on 3 June should stay informed about flight status and consider rescheduling if possible. The SNPVAC union has warned that the strike could cause widespread disruption across the country's transport network.
