A small seaplane crashed into the East River surrounding New York City on Sunday morning, with eight people rescued after a hard landing that nearly capsized the aircraft. Video footage captured the plane bobbing in choppy waters as lifeboats rushed to evacuate passengers.

Rescue and Injuries

The New York Fire Department rescued all eight individuals from the plane. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were evaluated by emergency medical staff, according to officials. Brian, a New Yorker who filmed the aftermath from his apartment window, told Metro: 'I did not see the impact, only all the emergency boats rushing over after. I’m so glad everyone is safe. It is amazing news.'

Post-Crash Operations

After the passengers were removed, the aircraft was righted on the water and towed back to the docks. The New York Police Department stated that an investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

The incident occurred during a busy 24-hour period for New York City. On July 4, the Brooklyn Bridge caught fire during a fireworks show celebrating America’s 250th birthday. At least four blazes broke out across the bridge at 9:32 p.m., approximately 30 minutes into the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show. The fires were extinguished by 10 p.m., and the bridge was closed to traffic for an additional 30 minutes. Police believe the fire was 'very likely' sparked by pyrotechnics. No injuries were reported.
