Rylan Clark was left floored after being asked about cheating on his ex-husband during an appearance on ITV's The Assembly. The 37-year-old Radio 2 presenter faced a series of no-holds-barred questions from autistic and neurodivergent interviewers on the experimental programme.
When asked, 'When you told your husband you cheated on him, he divorced you. Is honesty always the best policy?', Rylan replied, 'Oh, wow... Yeah, I think it is. I'm okay admitting I'm in the wrong, because actually I don't deal well with guilt and I don't deal well with secrets.'
Reflecting on his split from Dan Neal in 2021 after six years of marriage, Rylan admitted he had been 'really ill' and experienced suicidal thoughts. He said, 'It made me so ill... It sounds a terrible thing to say, but I'm glad it happened.'
The former X Factor star also revealed he does not regret anything about the relationship. 'I don't regret anything, so I'll leave that up to your imagination,' he said. He added that he rarely thinks of his ex-husband, saying, 'I miss feeling like I've got it all. I thought I had life done... I didn't have anything sussed.'
Speaking during a break, Rylan said he was glad he took part in the show despite the uncomfortable questions. He described the end of his marriage as having 'the rug pulled from under me,' and said he moved back in with his mother because his house held too many memories.
