A former car salesman has shared a simple trick to help drivers warm up their vehicles quickly during the current cold snap. The motoring enthusiast, known as 'Capturing Cars' on TikTok, explained that pressing one often-overlooked button can make a significant difference.
In a video, he advised drivers to start by turning the temperature setting to maximum, regardless of whether the car has separate or single controls. Next, he recommended setting the fan to the middle level and directing the airflow towards the occupants using the button that typically shows a seated person with arrows.
The crucial step, he said, is to activate the air recirculation function, which is usually represented by an icon of a car with a circular arrow inside. This ensures that already-warmed air inside the cabin is reused rather than drawing in cold air from outside. He suggested keeping this on for the first five to ten minutes.
He also urged drivers to switch on the air conditioning, noting that it is not only for summer cooling but also helps heat the car more efficiently. 'It's just a way more efficient way to warm the car up quickly,' he said, adding that once the car reaches a comfortable temperature, drivers should switch back to drawing in fresh air.
