A train fault between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly is causing significant disruption to services on Wednesday morning, with delays of up to 25 minutes expected. National Rail has confirmed that the line is blocked, affecting multiple TransPennine Express routes.
Services Affected and Delays
National Rail reported that engineers are on site addressing the fault. An update on their website stated: "A fault on a train between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly means some lines are blocked. Trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 25 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 08:00."
The following routes are impacted: between Redcar Central and Manchester Airport, Darlington and Manchester Victoria, Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly, and Newcastle/Hull to Liverpool Lime Street.
TransPennine Express Response
TransPennine Express issued a statement on X: "Due to a fault on a train between #Stalybridge and #ManchesterPiccadilly, some lines are blocked. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 07:30 01/07."
Passengers are advised to use their tickets on trams or Bee Network buses (routes 216, 219, 230) at no extra cost.
