Manchester Airport has reported a number of flight delays on Wednesday, August 19, as the busy summer travel period continues. Over the next couple of weeks, families will be making the most of the remaining school holidays by jetting off in search of last-minute summer sunshine. Thousands more will also be travelling over the bank holiday weekend, while travellers without children or with children outside school age will take advantage of shoulder season deals as September approaches.
Record Passenger Numbers Expected
Manchester Airport predicted that this summer would be its busiest on record, with more than 5.7 million passengers expected to fly in and out of the northern travel hub between Friday, July 17, and the end of the holidays on September 1. July was officially the second busiest travel month ever recorded, with more than 3.3 million passengers using the hub.
Guidance for Passengers
Passengers due to fly have been issued guidance to help ensure their journey is as smooth as possible, including allowing plenty of time to get to the airport. They are urged to arrive at least two hours ahead of their scheduled flight time, and three hours for a long-haul flight. This ensures sufficient time to check-in and pass through security. Guidance on how to get hand and hold baggage through security unchallenged has also been issued, as extra bag checks can be one of the biggest hold-ups. Many passengers may innocently pack banned items such as liquids greater than 100ml, multi-tools, and large squishy toys in their hand baggage. Lithium batteries are also banned from being placed in hold luggage.
