Manchester Airport is preparing for its busiest summer on record, with 5.7 million passengers expected to pass through the hub. As part of a £1.5 billion transformation programme nearing completion, Terminal 2 has been overhauled, and new amenities have opened including the Great Northern Market, a Boutique Mall with luxury retailers, and The Executive lounge. Terminal 3 passengers can use the new Sporting Chance sports bar, while expansion work continues using space from the closed Terminal 1.
Tram maintenance and security reminders
Extensive tram maintenance is underway, with no trams running through the city centre or on the Altrincham, Eccles, and Trafford Park lines. East Didsbury and Airport lines terminate at Firswood. Tram replacement buses operate between Exchange Square and Rochdale, Bury and Piccadilly, and Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.
Passengers are reminded to check hand luggage complies with Civil Aviation Authority rules: liquids under 100ml, no gun-shaped items, and lithium batteries (power banks, vapes, tablets) in cabin bags. Last week, nearly 100 prohibited items were removed from cabin bags in one morning at Terminal 2 security, including a gun-shaped whiskey decanter, yoghurt pots, and a leg massager.
