Emergency services rushed to a serious road traffic collision in Rochdale on Thursday evening, where a woman had to be cut free from her vehicle and taken to hospital.
Emergency Response to Serious Junction Crash
The incident, described by fire crews as a 'major road traffic collision', occurred at the junction of Bolton Road and Eskdale Avenue at approximately 8.30pm on Thursday 4 December. The collision involved two cars.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service mobilised a significant response, sending two fire engines from Rochdale station and an enhanced rescue unit from Leigh to the scene.
Rescue Operation and Injuries
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to carefully extricate one woman from the wreckage of a vehicle. She was subsequently transported to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service for further treatment.
Paramedics also assessed and treated a further four people at the location for their injuries. The full extent of their conditions has not been disclosed.
Road Closures and Clean-Up
In the aftermath of the crash, road closures were implemented around the junction. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work unimpeded and to assist with the investigation.
Fire crews remained on site for about an hour and a half, working to make the area safe before handing over the incident to Greater Manchester Police. The cause of the collision is not yet known.
