One lane of the M8 eastbound near Edinburgh is closed following a rush-hour crash, leaving drivers facing delays of more than an hour and tailbacks stretching almost 10 miles.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the eastbound carriageway near junction 1 Hermiston Gait shortly before 7.45am on Tuesday, October 6. One lane has been closed while they respond, and Traffic Scotland has warned of "heavy congestion" in the area.
Delays and tailbacks
Delays of over an hour have been reported for traffic heading into the city, with queues on the M8 stretching back almost 10 miles. Congestion has also built up on surrounding roads, causing delays on the M9, M90 and A90.
In a social media update, Traffic Scotland said: "The M8 is restricted eastbound on approach to Hermiston Gait due to a road traffic collision. Lane three (of three) is currently closed."
Alternative routes advised
"Delays of over an hour on the M8 approach and approx. 45 mins from the M9. Alternative routes recommended," the update added.
The extent of the crash, including the number of vehicles involved or any injuries, is currently unknown. Police Scotland was contacted for comment.
