Mum dies suddenly after falling ill on Benidorm holiday

A Scottish mother has died unexpectedly in Benidorm after falling ill while on holiday. June Fetter, from Fife, passed away following what her daughter described as a "short but incredibly difficult fight."

Family faces repatriation costs

Her daughter Hollie Fetter said the family now faces the heartbreaking task of bringing her mother back to Scotland, a tragedy that "happened so suddenly." A GoFundMe page was launched with a £14,000 goal to cover mortuary fees, repatriation costs, and funeral arrangements. At the time of writing, it has raised £11,382.

In the fundraiser, Hollie said the family "simply weren't prepared for the financial burden that comes with losing someone so unexpectedly abroad."

Tributes to a devoted mum

Hollie described her mother as "the most loving and devoted mum we could ever have asked for," adding that she was "caring, fun, bubbly and would genuinely do anything for anyone." June was a singer, and music was "a huge part" of her identity. The family managed to reach Benidorm in time to be with her in her final moments.

In a tribute, her son Darren said: "You were so loved by us all and many more. You were one in a billion. I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life. Keep singing up there sweetheart. I am absolutely heartbroken beyond measure."

The family is currently being asked to provide money for June to be transferred to the mortuary before arrangements can continue to bring her home to Fife and give her the farewell she deserves.
