M6, M56, M53 Incidents Cause Major Delays in North West

Motorists in the North West faced significant delays on Tuesday afternoon following a series of incidents on the M6, M56, and M53 motorways. National Highways North-West reported that traffic on the M6 northbound near Warrington was stopped between junction 20 at the Lymm Interchange and junction 21 at Manchester Road in Woolston just before 3pm.

Emergency services attended the scene, and Cheshire Police confirmed the crash involved two cars, with no serious injuries reported. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported one lane closed and delays of up to 70 minutes with six miles of congestion on the approach.

Separately, on the M56 eastbound, an obstruction between junction 14 at Chester and junction 12 in Runcorn caused slow traffic. A broken-down vehicle on the M56 eastbound near junction 9 with the M6 also led to lane closures, though delays were around 10 minutes.

On the M53 northbound, debris on the hard shoulder at junction 3 caused partial blockage between junction 4 at Bebington and junction 3 at Woodchurch. Merseyside Police confirmed National Highways were leading the response.

By late afternoon, all incidents had cleared and traffic returned to normal. Cheshire Police reported that the M6 crash involved four cars and occurred at 1.45pm, with lanes three and four closed temporarily. No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
